US senators have urged social media networks such as Facebook and Google to stop users from sharing blueprints for 3D printed guns.
The deadly weapons can be created by anyone with access to a blueprint and a 3D printer – a device that deposits molten plastic or powder to build an object layer by layer.
Blueprints for the guns are due to be released online at the end of this month following a controversial ruling from the US Justice Department. However, many have already been published online.
