Instagram to carry abuse warning for koala and tiger selfies

Dolphins, cats, dogs and orangutans are not included in the animal blacklist. However sloths, koalas, tigers, lions, turtles, monkeys and cheetahs along with the phrase “exotic animal for sale” will display the pop-up.

The Facebook-owned app, which is used by 23 million people in the UK, will not remove pictures unless they explicitly show animal cruelty.

Animals have been known to take their own selfies too.  A notorious monkey selfie case culminated earlier this year when British photographer David Slater agreed to donate 25 per cent of the royalties generated by a photo taken on his camera by a black macaque.
