Google is creating a custom news app for China that will follow its government’s censorship laws, as the US company faces outrage over reports its is also making a censored search engine for the country.
The search giant has been developing the app since last year and even met Chinese regulators to discuss its details, according to individuals close to the project.
The app will use AI and algorithms to select stories for readers instead of the content being selected by editors at the publications, according to a report by The Information.
