Pizza Hut has teamed up with Toyota to design a driverless pod that can deliver pizza to customers doors en masse.
The futuristic creation, called an “e-palette”, could function as an Amazon Prime delivery van, a mobile shop or even a hotel room, according to the Japanese technology giant, who revealed the prototype at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
Fully electric and self-driving, the new pod has already grabbed the attention of several companies, including Uber, Amazon and Pizza Hut, according to Toyota president Akio Toyoda.
During a presentation revealing the prototype fully electric and autonomous pod, Toyoda asked an audience to imagine a festival of the future where the pods could turn into food trucks or shops.
But it was its potential use by Pizza Hut that appeared to capture the imagination of the masses, drawing comparisons to Charlie Brooker’s dystopian thriller series, Black Mirror.
